At present, there is no standardized way to represent time in JSON (there is no time literal). Bertrand Le Roy explains the problem and how MS AJAX uses a string-based solution that also avoids false positives.

XML is a simple and flexible text-based format for describing data.

The language is a standard recommended by the W3C, and it is modeled after HTML, and XML has since become a superset of HTML with XHTML.

In addition to XHTML XML has innumerable other dialects, including the commonly used RSS format for subscribing to feeds of information.
