The data types represented by script variables vary depending on the scripting language and the script engine implementation. In each invocation from Java code to script code, a data type conversion would be executed when passing the Java object as arguments and returning the value from the function call. You should check with the script-specific document about the data type conversion.

Script webservices easily with Jython and Apache Axis

This post covers the steps required to build and use a Jython webservice client. The goal is to end up with a scripting environment that is easy to use. The short version of the post is as follows: 1. Use Apache Axis to generate and build a java library (jar) for the target webservice. 2. Add that library and the supporting Axis libraries to Jython via the CLASSPATH. 3. Write and run your Jython script, using the webservice. The rest of the post shows how you do each of those steps in detail.

A compilation of today's news of interest:

From Chris a report on the performance improvements of JavaFX: where JavaFX is close to Java in performance. Big improvements since this Earlier Post. I know the JavaFX compiler team (Robert, Per, Brian) and they are all top notch.

From Leo Soto, the Django Framework now runs on Jython. See Leo's blog entry and the Wiki page for details... and How to Run it on GlassFish. One more scripting language and framework! Jython is moving much faster than I had anticipated; Frank is already Working on Jython 2.5.
