nUbuntu - Flight 6 Released

So I finally shipped out a version of nUbuntu which I am pretty proud of. I did many of the things I wanted to do, such as change the username and hostname. Included patched drivers for packet injection. Download this release and test it in everyway possible. I also coded a simple bash script which makes connecting to wireless access points easily.

You can see most of the changes in the changelog. I will begin work again on another beta next week after I have had a rest. Which will incorporate any changes people would like to see. Even a new Fluxbox style maybe .

I am going to be patching the following drivers for packet injection:

madwifi-ng

prism54

HostAP

wlan-ng

If you would like to see any other supported drivers patched please let me know on the nubuntu forums.

nUbuntu Development - Update

I have finally changed the username and hostname from ‘ubuntu’ to ‘nubuntu’, which helps brand the Live CD more towards nUbuntu. I have also upgraded the current kernel to 2.6.15-19-386, and I should hopefully have it up to 2.6.15-20-386, before the next release. You can find some screenshots here.

Some of the additional applications which have been added include:

Ophcrack

Samdump2

Void11

Bkhive

If you would like to see any other applications added to nUbuntu before the next release please make a post in the nUbuntu forums, and it will be added. Package freeze is at 00:00 Friday morning this week. Also if you would like to see any other Kernel modules compiled into deb packages please make a post in the nUbuntu forums aswell.

A release is expected this weekend, so I hope you’re all anticipating the next release

I have finished a feature many people asked for in the nUbuntu forums, which was for an easier way to configure wireless within nUbuntu. So you can see preview screenshots here. If anyone has any other suggests please stop by the forums and make a post.

Harrison’s nUbuntu Review

So my friend Harrison has finally tried out nUbuntu and his review can be found at: http://mrharrison.blogspot.com/2006/03/nubuntu-best-hacking-distro-available.html

He gives nUbuntu a pretty good review which is always nice . He is also going to be making us some videos of using nUbuntu for various tasks, that we can put on our wiki.

Have you written an article or review about nUbuntu please let me know!

nUbuntu Todo List

There are some major things I would like todo to nUbuntu which are important I feel, and they are:

Upgrading the Linux kernel to version 2.6.15-19-386.

Changing the default username from ‘ubuntu’ to ‘nubuntu’.

Changing the hostname form ‘ubuntu’ to ‘nubuntu’.

Compile additional modules such as the ndiswrapper.

If you have any knowledge regarding the Ubuntu Live CD build process please contact me at tomb@nubuntu.org

I have decided to make a development blog for the development of nUbuntu, where I can write things such as changes, and things which I may change. I will also write about anything in the security and Linux world which may affect nUbuntu and/or Ubuntu.
